By BARTON PERKINS | Staff Writer. PELHAM –Pelham City Schools officially kicked off its 10th annual Red Ribbon week on Monday, Oct. 23. The week-long event aims to raise awareness about drug prevention among students and the community. This year, one of the highlights of the event was the highly anticipated Red Ribbon Door Decorating Contest.

There's plenty going on in the region's schools to celebrate this year's Red Ribbon Week, the nation's oldest and largest drug prevention. Many schools are organizing various activities to engage students and promote a drug-free lifestyle. One such activity is the Red Ribbon Door Decorating Contest held by Pelham City Schools.

The Red Ribbon Door Decorating Contest has become a beloved tradition among students and teachers. It not only brings the festive spirit to the school but also serves as a creative way to spread awareness about the importance of drug prevention. Students and teachers team up to decorate their classroom doors with red ribbons and other drug prevention messages.

This year, Patuxent Cardiology Associates in Huntingtown, Md., brought holiday joy to their workplace by hosting their own version of the Red Ribbon Door Decorating Contest. The employees showcased their creativity and commitment to drug prevention by decorating their office doors with red ribbons and powerful messages against drug abuse.

In observance of the annual Red Ribbon Week, the Axis I Center encourages residents, businesses, and schools to participate in the door decorating contest. The contest offers a unique opportunity to engage the community in raising awareness about drug prevention. Decorated doors serve as visual reminders of the importance of leading a drug-free life.

Mill Valley's "Students Against Destructive Decisions" club, known as JagPride, hosted their annual door decorating competition during Red Ribbon Week. The competition lasted throughout the week, with students and teachers showcasing their artistic skills and creativity. Each door told a unique story, emphasizing the importance of making healthy choices and staying away from drugs.

Door-decorating contests were not limited to Pelham City Schools or Mill Valley. Schools across the country participated in various activities during Red Ribbon Week, including art contests, dress-up days, and door-decorating contests. These contests provided students with a platform to express their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle in a fun and creative way.

Riverbank Unified School District (RUSD) in California also engaged in Red Ribbon Week, organizing a host of activities for their students. Alongside other schools, RUSD participated in a door-decorating contest, encouraging students to come up with eye-catching designs that promote drug prevention. The contest ignited a sense of pride and unity among students, as they worked together to create meaningful door decorations.

Houston Elementary School students in Texas had a busy month in October, celebrating both Red Ribbon Week and Bullying Prevention Month. To mark Red Ribbon Week, the students participated in numerous activities centered around the theme "Celebrate life. Live drug-free." The door-decorating contest was one of the highlights of the week, with students showcasing their artistic talent and spreading the message of drug prevention.
