Spring has arrived, and it is time to dust off your gardening tools and begin preparing for a spring and summer garden. Whether you are a seasoned gardener or a complete novice, there is always something new to learn in the world of horticulture. One fantastic option for backyard gardening is raised-bed gardens. These are easier to maintain than you'd think and are better on the back, as they reduce the need for bending and kneeling.

If you are new to gardening and looking to get started, mark your calendars for Thursday, March 21, 2024. Join a workshop to learn how easy and fun gardening can be, and gain the confidence to become a successful first-time gardener. No color is more disliked by gardeners than brown, so let's make sure your garden is bursting with vibrant hues.

If you missed Wednesday's Gardening 101 workshop, don't worry. There will be a second one on March 12 at the Benedum Civic Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The workshop will cover essential topics such as soil preparation, planting techniques, and basic plant care. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from experienced gardeners and get all your questions answered.

Gardening in Colorado can be challenging due to the state's high intensity sunlight, low humidity, rapid weather fluctuations, and diverse soil conditions. However, with the right knowledge and techniques, you can still have a thriving garden. Attend free workshops at the Community Center in March and April to get ready for the growing season. These workshops, taught by experts, will cover everything from seed starting to pest control.

There is no cost to attend these workshops, but pre-registration is encouraged to ensure a spot. You can sign up online at https://z.umn.edu/PipestoneGarden101 or by calling the Pipestone Extension office. Don't miss this opportunity to kickstart your gardening journey and create a beautiful and bountiful garden this spring and summer.
